About

After training at the University of Cape Town then MEDUNSA as a Primary Care Physician, I studied Psychiatry and Cognitive Therapy in the UK.

I returned to UCT as a Senior Lecturer and lead services in Acute, Rehabilitation and Therapeutic Units. My main research interests were Depression, Bipolar Disorder and Service Development.

After a few years in Private Practice in Cape Town I also gained a great deal of experience working with Adolescents, and in helping people Anxiety in ADHD and treatment of Addictions.

In 2022 I relocated to Nairobi where I was thrilled to be offered the opportunity to provide consultation, supervision and teaching at Chiromo Hospital and other centres around Kenya.

Generally, I prefer a minimum of medication, as I consider Psychotherapy to be necessary as a first step in the treatment of Anxiety and Depression, however, medication can be life saving and people with severely distressing problems often benefit from medication in the short term, while others benefit from medication to treat and prevent relapse of severe episodes of mental ill health.
